Edward L. Yingling
Edward L. Yingling is President and CEO of the American Bankers Association, where he is directly responsible for the day-to-day management of the association and its staff. The American Bankers Association, on behalf of the more than two million men and women who work in the nation's banks, brings together all categories of banking institutions to best represent the interests of this rapidly changing industry. Its membership — which includes community, regional and money center banks and holding companies, as well as savings associations, trust companies and savings banks — makes ABA the largest banking trade association in the country.
Yingling became CEO on May 1, 2005, but had been at the ABA for twenty years, responsible for the legislative, legal, regulatory, tax and policy development activities of the association. Under his leadership, ABA was cited as one of the "Power 25" in Fortune magazine's annual poll of the most powerful lobbying groups. ABA was one of only three trade associations to be in the "Power 25" every time the list was published, and it was the only financial services trade association to be so honored. Yingling also has been listed for four straight years as one of Washington's top lobbyists by The Hill newspaper, which covers Congress.
Prior to joining ABA, Yingling worked for 12 years as an attorney in a Washington, DC law firm representing banks before Congress and the regulatory agencies.
Yingling graduated from Princeton University in 1970 with a degree in politics and earned his law degree in 1973 from the Stanford University Law School. He is married to Dana Gordon, and they have one daughter.
