Commercial Banking

Issue

Supporting the credit and other financial service needs of commercial customers.

Position Statement

ABA supports legislative and regulatory policies that allow all banks to offer competitive products and services to their commercial customers and prospects. Rules, regulations, and laws that put banks at a competitive disadvantage in offering commercial products or services to customers located within their communities will be opposed.

Explanation

ABA members must have the ability to offer competitive commercial products and services to serve effectively commercial organizations located within their market area. Commercial organizations look to our members to provide a full range of commercial products and services that meet their needs throughout their organization's life cycle. Our members are put at a competitive disadvantage by laws that restrict the ability of our members to provide adequate levels of financing, increase the cost of product and service offerings, or limit the ability of our members to offer market rates of interest on deposit products.

ABA will work both independently and jointly with other trade associations to assist Congress, federal banking agencies, and other rulemaking bodies in developing laws and rules that enhance the ability of banks to offer competitive products and services to their commercial customers.
